Facebook – Single Parents Connection Group

Single Parents Connection Facebook GroupLast month, SingleMomSeeking’s Rachel Sarah and I spent a beautiful afternoon hiking together by the Bay. It was a chance to hang out, catch up, chat about blogging.

We realized we both interact with some really great single parent bloggers and readers online, both on our own blogs and on other sites. With so many nice, insightful, funny, smart people out there, we wondered how we could get them all connecting in one place, without taking anything away from existing single parent blogs. In fact, we wanted to promote them.

Enter Facebook, the social networking site. It’s not just for kids. There are plenty of people already connecting there, from supporters of T. Boone Pickens’ energy plan, to those who agree that cycling is a sport of gods. (And if you’re only on Facebook to spy on your children, you might consider they use it for a reason – it rocks.)

We figured it was time to add another group to the list – Single Parents.

Introducing Single Parents Connection, a new Facebook group where single parents, and the singles and parents who love us, can connect.

Like other Facebook groups, there’s a discussion board, message wall, video and photo sharing capabilities. And for Single Parents Connection, a blogroll of single parent bloggers. Of course, there are also the Facebook applications – flirt, karma, word twist. Granted, some are silly and fun. But as a long-time Silicon Valley veteran, I can tell you the infrastructure is there to build new ways to interact, things we haven’t imagined yet. I “get” the potential of Facebook, and it’s huge.

The Single Parents Connection group is just getting started, but there are already a handful of single parent bloggers there. Kat Wilder, Quest for T, Solo Mother, Crazy Computer Dad, Dr. Leah, to name a few.

Anyone can join Single Parents Connection – whether you’re a blogger or not, whether you’re a single parent, single, or a parent. Divorced coparent or never married. Swing by, join the group, lend your support, interact on discussion boards, share on the wall, promote your writing and blogging projects, visit the blogroll. And grab a Single Parents Connection blog badge.

Come on by and connect!
