There’s absolutely nothing wrong with just hanging out, but it’s considerably less safe than being in public together, physically and all the other ways. I would only be comfortable with this at a man’s home if it was after a few dates in public places, unless I’d been set up by someone who knows both of us very well. If I really like the man, I would much prefer dinner, wine and a movie at his place than dinner, drinks and a movie out, whether or not things had progressed physically just yet.

This hits home. I am actually trying to change plans with someone right now. We were thinking of dinner drinks and a movie, and I am now thinking wow! this is going to actually be an expensive evening, for just a quick get together. I suggested dinner at my place, wine, and watch a movie on my couch. We’ll see what she says.

So many get-togethers are focused on accomplishing a goal: let’s try that new wine bar, let’s plan for that presentation we have to give, let’s meet and see if we are compatible to date – are people these days afraid to simply be in the presence of another person and hang out?
