Flip Video Mino Flippin’ ROCKS

When my son turned twelve, he begged for an iPod nano. The only problem – he wasn’t that into music! He asked for it mainly because his older sister and some of his friends each had one. So, I made an executive decision of the parental kind, and got him something else.

Flip Video Mino Camcorder.

This things rocks! It’s tiny enough to fit in your pocket. It zooms and takes an hour’s worth of video clips. It’s got a little screen so you can immediately playback what you record. You plug it straight into a USB port on your laptop and upload the videos to youtube. (the USB connector is built-in, hidden and revealed with the click of a button)

Remember the 5-legged zebra? Flip video mino.

(Dad’s House Note: This is not a sponsored post. I truly love this Flip Video camera.)

My preteen son has a ton of fun using this video camera. He brought it on vacation this past summer and grabbed some precious footage of his toddler-aged cousins, as well as funny moments of his uncle (my brother) and me singing in the kitchen while we cooked. (Is it blackmail if I have to pay my son to keep those clips off youtube?)

Besides the awesome videos he takes, the Flip video mino camcorder keeps him occupied in a totally creative way. He and his friends have made skateboard videos, lacrosse videos, funny-or-die style skits. He even points it at himself when he practices his trumpet, and has so much fun he ends up practicing more than he’s required for school band.

At one of his school wrestling meets, I used his Flip mino pocket camcorder to tape his match. My son happened to lose (one of his few defeats this season), but he came off the mat claiming the other kid illegally choked him. He took the camera from me and went over to the ref, and lobbied to have the ruling overturned. They talked for ten minutes, and watched playback of the entire match! While the ref didn’t change his ruling, he explained why the holds were considered legal, and how my son might better defend himself next time.

If you’re looking for an extremely cool holiday gift for a preteen, a teenager, or even an adult (these pocket camcorders are sleek), definitely give the Flip Video Mino a look.

(If you’re a banker who happened to benefit from the $700 billion bailout, consider the Flip Mino video camcorder as one of the stocking stuffers Santa could leave for your children and friends…)

Check out the Flip Video Mino at Amazon. It’s highly rated by hundreds of customers there!

  1. That’s a really cool toy! I bet my 13 year old son would love that. Thanks for the tip!

Speaking of fun toys … I, ahem, posted pics today of what was in the sex basket a reader sent me.

Can I get kicked out of the blogosphere for that?

  4. This looks awesome. I know a little girl that would love this… hey, I know some grown men who would love this! Thanks for the idea!!

  5. Yeah my boyfriends almost 12 yr old wants the nano for xmas. I think a large part of it has to do with the fact that it has a touch screen and he thinks thats cool. Actually he upgraded his request to a Ipod Touch, but that was immediately denied. I don’t think a 12 yr old should have unlimited utube and internet access. Anyway, he’s getting a nano!

  6. That’s the exact one I have!… Although the kid and I technically share it now.

My only question: when do we get to see your producer-son’s movie of HIS dad? Can’t wait!

  7. I have one and love it too. I carry it in my bag everywhere I go. However, there’s no sound when I download it to my PowerBook. There is sound on the playback. What’s up with that? I am a techie loser. I need some help.

  8. Wow. *sigh*

Yet another toy I will probably never own. I don’t even have an iPod.

    (yeah I said it)

CDs and my HD Camcorder are fine with me. Guess I’m stuck in the dark ages. :)

  9. Cool toy. But I already have 2 digital cameras that also do video.

Now if you really want to help me out…what do I get for Christmas for my BF?!?

  10. That’s great, Dads. Sounds like a lot of fun and, yes, a wonderful creative outlet…

…just never let your son know of all these secondary benefits, or all the magic will be lost!

    Be well, Dads.

  12. Yup, those things are fun, and so much more convenient/less expensive than a quality digital camera. One of my friends has one and he’s captured some great moments! It seems your executive/parental decision was a winner.

  13. I keep hearing about this thing. Gimme gimme gimme.

  14. This is going on the Christmas list for our eight year old aspiring documentary filmmaker. I can already see many interesting short film screenings in the coming year at our house! Thanks for the great gift idea and happy holidays to you and yours~

  15. I have been seeing these things all over the place and they look really cool. I wanna get my 8 year old a cheap camcorder for christmas. These things aren’t cheap enough for her because I need something I won’t be devestated about if it breaks. But they get great reviews from everything I’ve been reading.

Hope you are enjoying a long weekend!
