Jaeger Tea on a Cold Night
I’ve lived in New England, so I know what cold is like. Now I’m in Nor-Cal, and while it’s not the same cold, we did have snow Wednesday morning on the hills a few miles from my house! It was so cold, in order to watch my daughter’s after-school soccer game (they won, and she dished an assist), I had to put on friggin’ long underwear and my bulkiest jacket from my east coast days.
Wednesday night, of course, I froze my ass off. For some reason, my house just won’t heat up unless my daughter is here. She works some sort of magic on the thermostat. (Um, like turning it way the hell up? Doh!)
All this cold brought back memories of a trip I took to Munich, Germany. We were walking around the town square, freezing our tushes despite a thousand layers of clothes. And everyone else was walking around, smiling, laughing, all toastied up like they had heaters in their pants. WTF?
Finally, we saw a sign that explained everything: Jaeger Tea!
We got a cup each, drank it, got another cup, drank some more. And pretty soon we could have strolled naked through that snowy town square and had the same warm happy smile as everyone else. This jaeger tea stuff was that good!
So Wednesday night, I’m totally craving Jaeger tea. And so I start googling and yahooing to find out how to make it.
Jaeger Tea, Easy Version:
Hot black tea
Jaegermeister
Drink till you’re happy and warm
Jaeger Tea, Advanced Version:
3 oz schnapps
3 oz rum
6 oz water
1 bag of black tea
juice of an orange
Bring it to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
Drink till you’re happy and warm
Jaeger Tea, Dad’s House Version:
Either recipe above
Share with a cute and curvy woman
Drink till you’re both happy and warm
Get in bed, spoon like crazy
I like the Dad’s House Jaeger Tea version best.

They same about the Danes in Copenhagen…I think the Swedes across the strait could take some lessons; I certainly could have when I lived there. Winter was hell; I could have used something akin to Jaeger Tea!! :)
Be well, Dads.

Oh yeah those Germans definitely know how to do it! I did learn one thing while I was in Germany though. Never, ever try to drink a German under the table. It’ll never happen and is definitely not worth the hangover that will follow!

I am rather fond of Glühwein on a cold German day. (Many a blurry evening to follow when I use Glühwein to warm up!) When I lived in Berlin, we’d visit the Christmas Market and that time of year it was always that damp cold that gets into your bones…and yet, all my memories of the market are warm and fuzzy.
I never had Jäger Tea when I lived there though…

Oh, this sounds delightful. I hope that the tea warmed you quite nicely… though I would bet that a woman would have done an equally good if not better job! Perhaps you could next take a trip to Ireland and learn how to warm yourself with the delight of Pucine!
I love Germany – am looking forward to an opportunity to do the Christmas Markets! (and maybe try some of that tea)

Oh, Jaeger doesn’t agree with The Girl. My last date with Jaeger was on Halloween and I fell in my closet trying to go to bed. But I think I’ll make an exception for this tea. MMMMM….yummy.

Hey — what kind of schnapps is in the second Jaeger (Jager?) recipe? And is it Jaeger/Jager tea if there is no Jeager/Jagermeister in it? LOL :)

I used peppermint schnapps, and Constant Comment tea since it already has a hint of orange and I had a box laying around my house. btw – this tea didn’t smell very good when it came off the stove, but it tasted awesome!! I will be brewing some up for my parents when they visit over the holidays. Love making grandma a little loopy. I’ll stick to the non-Dad’s House version of the tea for my mom. (Ewww!!! :-)

It’s always been my experience that Jager isn’t much of a spooning kind of drink. You’re generally in the mood for a different sort of “warming up” with Jager. Sounds good though.

Wow,this is perfect. A way to enjoy the bottle of Jaegermister that has been in my freezer for years.
Coupled with the fact that I have been on a bit of a tea kick lately…
…and you know what is coming next week and I just wanna forget…
But, I have a question. In the second recipe- if you boil it, do you wind up just burning the alcohol off?
Cheers!

Wendy – good question! My 12 oz. of liquid simmered down to 10 or 11, so I guess some stuff got lost. But it definitely had a nice kick. You’re really not supposed to boil the tea – just bring it to a boil, then let it simmer. I’ll edit the recipe to say that.

Jager makes me want to dance. I’ll put some Christmas music on, make a cup and get some exercise while I make the house sparkle. Unfortunately that means cleaning before company arrives, not spooning and sparkling. I’ve a feeling that 2009 will be a good year for romance, though.
My ex lives in Germany and is a tea drinker. He’s likely been spooning his lovely Slovene. The fact that I can smile while thinking about that is a very good sign that I’m moving on!

Hey David, that Jaegar Tea recipe looks pretty good. Was wondering how an ‘iced tea’ version would go?
Was thinking maybe a cold version sitting by the pool at the end of the day. We are currently experiencing some pretty warm weather , with todays top expected to be 104 deg (Brisbane).
The coldest I have ever been was in Germany a few years back. Loved the place but damn it was cold.

Damo – nice weather down under! I’m thinking you’ve got the sunshine, maybe you can experiment with the iced jaeger tea and let us know how it goes.

The easy version sounds terrible because I hate Jagermeister. Dadshouse version does not float my boat because I do not care to spoon with a curvy woman. I’ll stick with the advanced version.

Hi I there is a Jaeger mix-up here.
There’s Jagermeister that simply doesn’t have a ‘tea’ profile.
But put a jigger and a half of Jagermeister in a cup of Hot Cocoa and you’ll suddenly understand what Love tastes like!
I even heard some ski resorts stopped serving the Jager Cocoa because local populations were increasing

Then there’s the other Jager…
Barenjager it’s a honey flavored liquor that will caress you from the tip of your tongue right down to your knees with delightful honey warmth amd taste.
Whether you have a cold or don’t like being cold – Barenjager and tea should be your cup of tea.
We used to layer the 2 Jagers and call it ‘A Killer Bee’
Happy Jagers
