In my book, it's all about attitude. I'm much more impressed with a man who cares about being warm, kind and generous, who is involved in his kids lives, who reads and is concerned about his community, and who knows how to leave work behind... than obsessing over trying to look 20 years younger.

I like being with a man who practices healthy eating and responsible drinking, who makes a habit of being active, and enjoys spending time 'doing things' (gardening, exploring the city, hiking in the hills, going dancing) rather than sitting on the couch watching TV.

I don't think spending a zillion hours at the gym makes a guy a better person. Though, I admit, I do draw the line at dating anyone who "waddles"... LOL

To answer Bek's question regarding why guys stop working out when they have a girlfriend? Time management is why. It's hard to find time for the gym 5 days a week to keep up the routine and a lot of times when a girlfriend comes along she wants some of your time. Between work, kids, girlfriend, and everything else carving out time for working out is a challenge. Of course it's worth it, it's just not easy. I dated one girl who constantly tried to feed me food that wasn't on my diet and would get upset if I refused. She also wasn't a very good influence when it came to drinking. That didn't last.

In the end, I have to work out and watch what I eat for me and to set a good example for my kids. Being healthy is important. At my 20 year HS reunion less than 1/2 of the guys were in good shape still.

Keeping fit is part of a healthy lifestyle.

Flat abs are great to look at, but I, too, are more interested in a man who works out as part of his whole view on life. That's why I work out/hike/bike. If, however, it also happens to make my ass look great, well, who am I to argue ...?

I am with you, I loathe "The Gym". It bores me to tears, especially when the Great Outdoors offer so many alternatives...not to mention thinking about who has been sweating all over the equipment before you. ::gag::

A wonderful friend of mine (HotBe) turned me onto an awesome fitness tool that can seriously be used ANYWHERE. In fact, I believe the Navy Seals are using this in their workout as well. It's the TRX [ http://www.fitnessanywhere.com/ ]. I love this thing. It's a full body workout utilizing your core (ABS!) the entire time. This kicks your ass. (I should be a sales person for them!) :D

Just a little FYI for you and others looking to "change it up" and "Work it out" all at the same time!

Your kids' gems are just priceless.

Agreed with SMS that a fit man is hot. I'd take one. I'm not all that picky, though, and I'll date someone with less-than-washboard abs or maybe even a li'l gut. I am one of those women who is thin but not at all fit. I would love to work out but haven't yet determined when exactly that is supposed to occur in my life. I'll keep working on that one!

That question of yours cracked me up! Is that a joke?

I've always tried to stay in shape, although I've gone through some "chubby" periods for sure (post baby!).

Now, I kick box two or three days a week, spin one night, walk... I do it for ME. And, yes, I love being a great role model for my kid.

So, yes, a fit man is HOT. (And "wow" about Lori's comment!!)

Ok, I put my request in for a copy of it at the library, just to see how closely it compares to my morning workout routine... The amazing thing was that all of the copies were available, no waiting, gee that was a big surprise, I figured there would be a run on them after New Years.
