Rum, Ginger Beer, Lime – Dark and Stormy
After the past few crazy weeks, I’m now thinking fondly back to a sailing trip friends and I did on a catamaran around the British Virgin Islands. We sailed, snorkeled, and dived by day, then dined, drank, and partied by night (none of which were dark and stormy.) The boat had four bedrooms, but I always slept in a hammock under the stars.
One day during this trip, we hung out on a secret beach. There was a little beach bar with a chalkboard full of rum drinks (Goslings, Bacardi, you name it.) My friends being my friends, and me being me, we made it a point to try every rum drink on the menu. One of our favorites? The dark and stormy. It’s so simple – rum, ginger beer, lime – if you haven’t had one, you gotta try it.
Dark and Stormy Cocktail – Rum, Ginger Beer, Lime
2 parts Gosling’s Black Seal Rum (yes, the brand makes a difference!)
3 parts Ginger Beer (get it at Trader Joe’s)
Pour ingredients into a highball glass.
Add ice.
Garnish with a wedge of lime
That dark and stormy blend of rum, ginger beer, and lime takes me right back to the secret beach… and then, for some odd reason, to another beach on Turks and Caicos, and a night of skinny dipping with a Cuban woman… ah, the Caribbean!
Happy Friday!

Ahh, they are delicious. I discovered them in Bermuda, those folks originated it with their Bermudan Black Seal rum.
mmmm… I want one now and its only 9:30!

Sounds YUMMERS!!
I hate that I didn’t stay in SF long enough to try some of these fabulous drink recipes of yours.
Unfortunately, there’s no Trader Joes here. Boo. I did shop at Trader Joes while I was in SF as part of my being “touristy”. What a cool store!
Man, this post has me craving the warm days again…

I might just have to go to Trader Joes and pick some ginger beer up for my BF to try. Me, I’m not a rum drinker. I stick to what I’m good at.

Substitute vodka for the rum and you’ve got yourself a Moscow Mule! It’s one of my favorite drinks of all time, and a potent one at that!

That drink probably would inspire some skinny dipping. Too bad the water here is only warm enough for sea lions this time of year. Might be fun to cuddle up with a big blanket, a friend, a Dark and Stormy and watch some big winter storm waves crash into the rocks, though.

As for me, I’d be content with the ginger beer by itself.
