Scary Ghost Visit
I woke up the other night with a scary ghost in my bedroom. Eerie, white, ghoulish, ethereal, floating over me while I lay in bed. It scared the shit out of me. I swear, this scary ghost was trying to pick me up and cart me off to who knows where.
I screamed.
Or rather, I let out a bunch of short “ah-ah-ah!” screams. Not too loud, or I’d wake the kids.
The thing is, I never get scared in my house. Walls creak, appliances knock, and I just keep doing my thing. When I’m sleeping? Nothing bothers me. Like any good parent, I wake up at the smallest sound. I determine the source, shrug and go back to sleep. About the worst that ever happens is a raccoon or skunk comes scratching at my French doors.
But this ghost was so real, so amorphous, so unidentifiable, it really did scare me. Especially since it seemed keenly interested in me.
The “ah-ah-ah!” screams weren’t frightening this scary ghost away. I realized my teen children were tucked comfortably in their beds, and they damn well could wake up and save me. I screamed louder to get their attention.
In a way, that did the trick – the scary ghost disappeared. As for my kids? They didn’t wake up, let alone come to my rescue. They didn’t even make a sound.
With the scary ghost gone from my room, I wondered – should I go check on my kids?
Nah. They didn’t check on me.
I rolled over and went back to sleep.
This is a true story. I wish I had a scary ghost video to share.

I’ve never had a paranormal experience before, but I certainly believe.
Interesting.

LOL…I say “interesting” because I’m trying to analyze it like they do on Ghost Hunters.
Not working, though.

Very interesting. I wonder what this spirit wanted? Was it scary because it was an unknown? I wonder how different the experience would have been if you were welcoming to this spirit? May want to try to be welcoming next time and see where it goes.

Whoa. Is that what dating in the Valley does to you?! ;)
Just kidding. Are you sure you weren’t dreaming? Not that I’m NOT a believer, because I think there are things that can’t be explained with “logic,” but I have had dreams that seem and feel so real that I start trying to cry out in my sleep, or I thrash around in response to the dream.
Fortunately, those don’t happen very often.
At any rate, I had to laugh about your comment re: the kids. I’d think the exact same thing!

I have seen ghosts too. Or apparitions. I can remember one that occurred when I was about 5 years old with amazing clarity.
I don’t know what to tell you… its difficult to remain logical when you’re awakened from a dead sleep. Well… it is for me. But I’d say try to control your breathing and see what happens.
Or pray A LOT that it never happens again. :)

I’ve never had a scary ghost visit before. I once saw my deceased grandfather outside my kitchen window, but that wasn’t scary. I was awake, it was daylight, and he was standing next to birch tress in our front lawn, completely at peace. Was he really there or did my mind conjure him? Who knows.
As for this particular spirit – it was very different than a dream. Usually in my dream visits, people have concrete form. (Like the three nude women who showered with me: http://dadshouseblog.com/2009/01/30/nude-dream/) And situations are usually rooted in the material world.
This spirit was formless, like a blob of light that was moving and undulating. I saw it and felt its “presence” in the room after I woke up. Creepy. Though one can ask, was I really awake? Was it just a reflection of ambient light? If it was just a nightmare, anyone good at dream interpretation?

This is certainly the weirdest date I’ve ever read about. That’s my theory, anyhow. Someone you dated once, who felt way more attraction than you did, is now deceased and drifted on by in hopes of finally hooking up with you. She was probably hoping to steal a few soft kisses without waking you up. ;)

I am definitely a believer in paranormal activity.
I’ve been lucky enough not to actually see anything. However, I have still sensed the presence of another being.
A couple of years ago I lived in Santa Clara by Sun Microsystems by the old Agnews Mental Hospital. I am not sure if the hospital is still there or not.
Anyway, my apartment was across the street from an unmarked grave. Basically, a bunch of unidentified mental patients were dumped there after they died because no one came to claim their remains. Keep in mind that this happened back in the day when we weren’t so kind to mentally handicapped patients.
Sometime in the summer of 2005 there was a symbolic ceremony for these people with white unmarked sticks sticking out of the grass, over the burial grounds.
You can actually read about this in the San Jose Mercury News yourself if you feel so inclined.
Anyway, I would always hear the door shut, or think I saw someone out of the corner of my eye. Wierd.
I believe that troubled souls that haven’t found peace linger around on earth. I think that a lot of those patients may have felt trapped and unloved and tortured and may have stayed behind and lingered around their old stomping grounds.

Hypnopompic hallucination? I used to have those a lot. Visual + auditory hallucinations during the transition between sleep and waking. Along with sleep paralysis sometimes. Pretty freaky.

Wow. Weird. Who knows WTF it is or what it wants. Checking you out as a potential mate perhaps? I had a similar experience when I was in my 20s and this green amorphous blob thing floated into the room and kind of “merged” with me. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a dream. It didn’t scare me, but it was a very overpowering, mindblowing experience. Sort of sexual, and sort of beyond sexual. More like an ET experience. Hey, maybe your ghost wants to “merge” with you? I like the suggestion above by krn that this could be someone you dated who kicked the bucket and wanted some after-life action. :)

Ghosts are weird and scary. That is creeepy
As for kids waking up? oh no!
My mom would wake at the sound of a pin drop LITERALLY.. we couldn’t make a peep. I couldn’t believe it until the birth of my first.. and I have not slept since. Even with teens.
But they could sleep through the end of this world as we know it! Lucky them!

Dana, hypnopompic hallucinations and sleep paralysis are symptoms of narcolepsy. You might want to be tested for it, if you haven’t already.
Anyways, Dad, I’m with Dana on this one.
Even people who don’t have narcolepsy can have these hallucinations upon falling asleep or right before waking.

Dana and Lori – love the diagnosis! It’s like when I get some weird ailment and go look on WebMD, then discern that I have only days to live. (smile)
I like Krn and Badmutha’s theories about this spirit wanting to get it on with me. Sounds like some out-of-body tantra thing. Yeah, baby!
Shelle – Ghost Hunters is pretty good, but I like Celebrity Paranormal Project best. That’s damny scary!
Sandra – anything involving cemetaries and Agnews sounds creepy. Scary ghost material, indeed!
