So, I'm wondering if it makes a difference that his kids don;t live with him full time? The problem I'm having with my 14 yo son is that I feel like i am in constant battle on everything! I think that if i only had him part of the time, i would probably let all the little battles go and appreciate the little time i have with him. Hows that for a "grass is always greener" scenario! I don;t wish that i was divorced. I just wish i could learn to let things go and appreciate his personality.

considering mine will be chained to the bedpost at teenage years, yeah, I'll love it too. nothing to worry about when they aren't out getting into trouble. just kidding. I am loving every age so far.

David: I just designed a book and website on parenting that has some great ideas, stories (success and avoidance ones) and practical advice for raising kids at any age. It's called "Parenting is a Contact Sport: 8 Ways to Stay Connected to Your Kids for Life" by Joanne Stern, PhD. Here's a link where you can download the first chapter for free and receive a weekly tips & quotes email: http://www.parentingisacontactsport.com

Wow, you must have wonderful, well behaved teens if you are up here professing how you love raising teens.

Beautiful post entry below about your marriage advice. I definitely agree with you there and take it to heart.

Yo, dude. (I didn't say it out loud, just thought it. So my own kid wouldn't think I'm trying too hard to be cool.)

Having your kids cook isn't slave labor, it's helping them become self sufficient. Now you know they can fix some decent meals for you when you come to visit them in their college digs. Or at least grill some burgers each night you're there. ;)

What's up with the truck situation? We need an update on that.
