Oatmeal is real food indeed. It's easy and quick to prepare and things can get a bit hectic in the morning as a single mom to three teenagers. I've always enjoyed preparing it for my boys in the morning.

Glad to see the topic of diet come up here. Oatmeal can be good; I wouldn't call it necessary though. You can just swallow down some psyllium husk fiber each day to make sure you're getting your fiber intake; does wonders for you as well. Some - I certainly don't follow this to a T but try to get my fiber from dark leafy greens & fruit as much as possible- follow the paleo diet where oats/wheat/anything that can be made into bread/ is considered "bad" as it's "cop-out calories". They do provide health benefits when cooked, but their idea is, if you can't eat it raw, don't eat it (you wouldn't eat a wheat stalk). That's a bit extreme, I'll admit, but giving yourself the occasional cheese w/ salad and even having the weekly bowl of pasta for lunch/dinner (in an Italian family, you can't say no on Sundays...) won't kill you!

It's awesome, it's whole, it's real food . . . add a little monounsaturated fat . . . even if few sprinkles of dark chocolate . . . and it's perfect!

Every time I eat oatmeal, I ask myself, why don't I do tis more often. I love it with blackberries. But then again, I'd eat the sofa if it had blackberries on it. THanks for the reminder, DH.
