Proud Parent
My teen daughter’s high school track regular season just ended. The team did great. My daughter did great. So of course, like a good proud parent, I engaged in some healthy bragging to my parents, brothers, and sisters-in-law. (I do the same for my son.)
Don’t worry, I had no righteous “my kid is better than yours” attitude. That’s not my style. Plus, my nieces and nephews are only two.
There was a problem, though – I’d been bragging about my daughter’s track successes all season long.
I kind of figured my extended family was getting tired of hearing about yet another race won, yet another personal best accomplished, yet another victory for the team. But I think it’s important to share your kids’ successes with your extended family. When her grandparents, aunts and uncles tell her “good job”, she feels doubly good about herself.
Fortunately, I had video to share from the last varsity track meet. There’s my daughter taking the baton in one of the relays, then handing it off to a teammate as they sprinted their way to glory.
I knew my brothers would love seeing my daughter run.
My sisters-in-law? I was guessing they’d snooze…zzzzzzzzz…. And that’s if they even clicked play.
Oh, but there was a saving grace on this particular video. The very next race on the tape was of the varsity boys relay team. And wouldn’t you know, one of those boys is the young man who will be taking my daughter to prom this coming weekend.
My sisters-in-law watched the video twice.

What did I tell you – there are some hot men out there running – of all ages!! ;) Ladies, find a 5k and enjoy!
I am happy to share my daughter’s accomplishments with everyone (including the internet)!! I am just so proud of the effort and dedication and love more than the win. I am a “journey” kind of person where she is all about the goal!

There’s nothing wrong with being proud of our kids. They are a reflection on us after all aren’t they? ;)
I happily sent my daughters drawing skills to a few people this week and my son’s awesome painting of a monster from a storybook will be for tomorrow. By praising their accomplishments it lets them know we love them and that we want other people to know how great they are too.

I’m lucky in this regard. Dear daughter is the only grandchild, niece, etc. and lives far away.. So, my family is more than happy to view or hear about her latest achievement.. And I am more than willing to share.. :):)
So much so, dear daughter often says ’stop telling people what I do!!’ through clenched teeth…
Oh, she’ll get over it.. :):):)

I think it’s great to share your daughter’s accomplishments with family! Sometimes I don’t think I share enough. I recently got a scanner and have been sending things my daughter’s write to friends and family. They seem to really get a kick out of it!

Brag away! That is one of our rights as a parent.
My daughter’s prom is this weekend too…and her boyfriend’s parents are out of town. Yikes.

I’m sure your sisters-in-law would have watched the video even without the boyfriend in it. But I get why they watched it twice. :-)

ha ha ha! Thanks for the laugh! Priorities, you know. I’m surprised they only watched it twice.

The deal with family is that they have to care.
Given the grief so many of them cause, it’s the least they can do!
Sheesh …

Naw— you are just what, 15 or so years away from hearing all of THEIR bragging rights. Get em in while you can.
You should be really really proud of your daughter and her guy friend. Especially in a world filled with video games and junk food.
Keep up the bragging and blogging. I will always listen.

I think it’s really sweet how you brag about your daughter and are proud of her accomplishments. The world could use more dads like you.

Wow prom?!? That seems like such a long way away… but its really not, is it?
How cool that they’re both athletes. I just wasn’t raised that way (working out/athleticism) but I certainly hope my kids will be.

I think you should brag all you want about your children. My parents did it, as well as my grandparents. Although I would play bashful and act embarrassed, I loved it.
Proms are so special, and senior prom was ten years ago around this time. I had a wonderful time during both proms with the evening gowns and makeup, and I hope your daughter enjoys hers.
