My ex and I hiked from Cusco to Machu Picchu - We left Tuesday and were there by Friday morning to see the sun rise over the magnificent ruins. I have to say, it was one of the best trips I've ever taken. The guides made all the food (soup and tea) from stream water along the route, so unfortunately I got stomach sick, but it wasn't too bad. One of the best parts was the $5 hot shower I took on the 3rd day!! Just a note of interest, there is an annual footrace from Cusco to the ruins - all the trail guides do it - they run the 3 day hike in like 5 hours - amazing! And they kept saying only the weenies took the train in... lol! But I'll give you a pass since you were hungover... ;) I enjoyed this post.
