My Teen Daughter is a Grandma
My teen daughter is already a grandma. How can this be?
No, she hasn’t given birth to any children, let alone have children give birth to any kids. (I gave her a father daughter sex talk at an early age. I’m pretty sure she won’t get pregnant on a drunken booty call anytime soon.)
She does have her senior moments, but that’s not it either.
My teen daughter is a grandma for one simple reason – when we bought a box of See’s chocolates, she insisted on getting nothing but candies with soft centers.
WTF!?
You think I’m nuts, right? Please. I can’t even think about biting into another Dark Buttercream, Pineapple Truffle, Cocoanut Cream, or Blueberry Truffle without gagging. Where are the nuts? Where’s the caramel? Where’s the brittle? Where’s the molasses chips?
Grandmas buy chocolates with soft centers so they won’t bust a tooth. They buy soft center chocolates so when their dentures are in a glass, they can simply gum the candies down.
My daughter is a grandma. And she’s only seventeen.

I don’t think you have to worry until your
daughter comes home from the mall with elastic waste pants with seams sown down the front, sweatshirts with embroidered kitties and birdhouses or a tube of orange lipstick. When any of the three occur, it’s time for therapy.
Until then, buy your own box. Cream centers, eewwie.

@Paula – LOL! That would be scary indeed.
No cream centers please. Only real chocolate can survive around here.

Oh, I’m with your daughter.. The nuts/caramel/brittle are nice. But when one is savoring only one or two select chocolates, the cremes are lovely.. Chocolate with a bit of coconut-strawberry-raspberry truffle or (my fav) buttercream.. Mmmm.. Delish!!! :):)

Too funny. And I think Paula just described my mother.
I don’t care for the soft centers either – ick. Guess that means I’m not a grandma. Whew!

That’s not a gramma thing. It’s a female thing. We want what we want.

I’m with you! I gotta have something to sink my still young teeth into!
And yeah, I have to agree with Teri. We do want what we want. We also, I’ve found, don’t always know how to explain why we want what we want. We just do.

I agree with Cathouse Teri..
It is a female thing, we like soft creamy centers from time to time.. and it changes depending on mood..
IMO.. the male gender tend to dislike stuff that’s either too sweet or too soft (icky).

Pineapple Truffle? No way will I be satisfied until I find myself some of that. Time to throw on my birdhouse T-shirt, paint my lips orange and hit the local candy store.

Dad,
Forget See’s candies, if you can get up to the city, specifically North Beach, check out XOX chocolate on Columbus. They are small, and not necessarily beautiful but they are the best, even though there some other really nice chocolate or truffle shops in the city, they take the cake

Oh, Paula…I LOVE that description! The mental picture I have going on right now…
Anyhoo, I’m with the “something I can sink my teeth into” crowd….ick on the soft centers. Guess that means I’ve got a few years left in me :)

Mmmm, See’s chocolate…their divinity is to die for, and I like the soft ones. Guess I’m a grandma, too, but a sassy one!

chocolate is worthless without the ice cream.
grandmas don’t buy or ingest chocolate anymore – they’re all mostly diabetic.
@Danielle – love it!!!!

Silly post, this. :)
Wellllll…..your daughter has always seemed very mature for her age in your posts, Dad’s.
If you really want to spoil her while she’s away from home this fall, send her a ‘lil box of either teuscher champagne truffles or intemperantia organic truffles. Mmmmmm. You could send me some, too……
;)
