Blogger Happy Hour
I’ve met a bunch of bloggers in real life, and for some reason these meet-ups almost always involved drinking. Go figure! (Aren’t those some big-ass cocktails in the photo?)
After meeting single mom Mindy and her daughter in San Francisco last weekend (I drank a Bloody Mary, Mindy drank white wine, and we very nearly made it to the Buena Vista for Irish Coffee), I figured it was time to wax poetic on the drinking encounters I’ve had with bloggers in real life.
Cathouse Teri – a sexy irreverent blogger (who hasn’t written a post in a month – WTF?), Teri gets top billing because not only have I met her twice, but we drank a lot both times we met. Woohoo! We downed some fine Belgian beers and ales at the Trappist in Alameda. Fun times.
Dirt & Noise – she’s a married mom of two young boys, and a contributor to the Deep South Moms (a sister group of the Silicon Valley Moms Blog). She gets second billing because not only did we have killer cocktails (some sort of Rosemary martini thing), but she blogs cocktail recipes every Friday at 5pm. That’s my kind of blogger!
Ts Quest and Depot Dad – we met up at a party when T visited the Bay Area during the holiday season last year. Alcohol was flowing! Good cheer all around. I think I stuck to red wine that night. And I actually didn’t drink all that much, because I had to drive afterwards. I totally enjoyed meeting both Jim and T.
Kat Wilder – she blogs anonymously, and so in an effort to hide her true identity, I can pretty much make up whatever I want right here. So, rather than say we met at a wine bar for conversation and a drink, I’ll say we hooked up, did tequila body shots, and swore each other to secrecy. (Oops – so much for that secret.)
Sandra (aka Sandrita, Fraulein Senorita) – she’s single and not a mom, but she flits around the single parent blogosphere (right on!) We met up at a hookah bar for a hookah smoke (right on!!) I drank a vodka martini that night, and I believe she had a cosmopolitan. But after my second martini and all that hookah smoke, I sort of can’t remember the details so well. (Maybe she’s the blogger I did body shots with? Right on!!!)
Mama Dharma – I met her and some other mom bloggers at the Trappist for Belgian beer. (Cathouse Teri is influential! Especially when she was there too.) Picture me, a lone guy downing beer with a trio of good looking women. Nothing like an ego stroke to get us men folk going! It was fun.
Susan Courtad – we started with coffee at Café Trieste in San Francisco, then moved to lunch and alcohol in North Beach. I can’t recall our beverages of choice, so let’s just say I had a gin and tonic, and she had a mai tai, and we’ll call it a day. (Susan has a great sense of humor, btw. And she spent this year planning a wedding, so hasn’t blogged in forever.)
Silicon Valley Moms – I joined an SV Moms Blog girls night out sort of thing. They swore to me it wasn’t really a GNO. But I think they just wanted me to feel welcome. (I did! I did!) We ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and we drank a few pitchers of margaritas.
On that note, I think it’s happy hour. Anyone for a drink?!

Wow, you sure have met a bunch of your bloggy buds! Most of mine live far, far away from my neighborhood (single tear).
Now I have a craving for a mai tai, too!

Just kidding ;-) (about the hangover)

I’ve met a few other bloggers and other than that weekend in Bremen I can’t say they involved alcohol. Usually just kids. I must be doing something wrong…

Big sigh….Why must ya’ll live in such far away places? It sounds like fun times were had by all who got to meet up. Doesn’t anybody live in the middle of the U.S.??? I mean, we have no oceans and not much night life, but we’ve got lakes and…well…if you absolutely must go to Branson, I suppose I could break my longtime rule of avoiding it if it means that much to you :) hahahaha Obviously, I’m going to have to expand my travel horizons some day :)

You’re making me thirsty. That’s cool that you have met so many bloggy friends.
Makes me think to back in the day when I was a regular in a chat room on AOL…..yeah, long time ago. It was the Redhead Room BTW. I actually met a few people over the course of time. One guy came to look at a Corvette we had for sale and another couple (no longer a couple, I’m certain) who lived quite close had us over for dinner and we went out with them once. No lifelong friendships created but still fun to meet new people.

Drinking with bloggers is the best! Luckily 3 of them live nearby so we can make it a regular thing. Like tonight.
And did you now there’s a Buena Vista in the SF airport? It was right by my gate so I had my Irish coffee just before I left.
*sigh*
Already wishing I was back there again.

I’ve also had the good luck and timing to meet several other single parent bloggers and they have all been extraordinary, fun, and loving people. Well, um, except for that one. But that is a story for my own blog some day. Here’s hoping I get to meet many more in the years ahead.

DM, I want to have drinks with you, too! Actually, the BF is going to start looking for jobs in other cities/states in January, and the Bay Area is second on our list. We have a really good friend who lives in the city and I’ll let you know the next time we’re visiting :-)
Oh – and I’m having happy hour today with some friends after work because my birthday is on Monday, which is also the first day of school (lame). But excited for margaritas today!

I had a blast meeting you too David. That was a fun night. Wish we could have talked more!
I want to meet more bloggers too! We should arrange a giant BLOGGER HAPPY HOUR every year – like our own personal convention!
Bring on the drinks! Its Friday!

Ready for a drink? You’ve got to be kidding…
It’s afternoon in my part of the country, and I could use a Margarita or two after this week’s teenage tweaks to the shopping list.
Have a happy upcoming weekend. And enjoy, safely!

Haha, I know you had a drink or two, but I didn’t drink as I had to drive home. I just smoked myself into a stupor until you asked if I was okay since my eyes were so glazed over.
I believe your hookah cherry was popped that night, and I do feel proud………… Another hookah notch on my belt…..

Sounds like good times! Lucky you. The social aspect of blogging is a big draw, but it would need to stay anonymous for me. It’s not easy for a honest, direct, open person to avoid “outing” themselves online. I admire Kat Wilder and a few others I read for pulling that off.
I met up with some friends from an online forum a few years back. They were mostly moms with young children. We had a fun time. It was interesting that our online impressions of one another were pretty accurate. My friends were all hot mamas and even more fun and humorous in person. If any of them were in your area, I’d set you up, Dad’s.
Cheers and Happy Friday (at roughly 4pm PST with a Pinot Noir sampling)~

I was supposed to go out your way for vacay next spring & was going to mention meeting up with you and a few others in the area!
Alas, I got pregnant (by a guy who doesn’t want to be involved), and I’m due in April – so that’s not gonna fly.
BTW – what’s your take on dating while pregnant (considering the gal’s STONE SINGLE)?

Ah, David, how fun it is to reminisce. Thank you for the shout-out!
My non-blogging writing projects have been slow-going — well, okay, kind of no-going at the moment — because as you indicated it’s been a rather busy couple of months with selling my fiance’s house, moving our crap around and starting to combine two households into one (my crap is better, btw), hanging with the kids this summer and surviving our first, and perhaps only, Disney trip (!!), and planning a full-scale wedding, which will take place in early December. In fact, I’m thinking I might need to start with a gin and tonic AND a mai tai next time we meet! ;)

Dad,
Anytime you would like to come up to the city and have some drinks. Please drop me a line. Every other weekend I try to hit a nice restaurant with an excellent bar.
There are not always tons of available women, but there are not usually many Silicon Valley Princesses, at least not in the Mission.
cheers!

HOW DO ALL YOU GUYS ACTUALLY EVER HAVE TIME TO GO TO A BAR? OR HAVE A HAPPY HOUR?????
Hell. I can’t even leave the house for an errand before the next leap in life events with my two (and their assorted cohorts)!
Daddio – Please send Saint Bernard with keg of any of the aforementioned drinks. And oxygen. Due East. Oh, competent hairdresser, who can paint gray, also appreciated.

Well chances are I won’t be travelling to your neck of the woods any time soon. BUT…let me know if you venture north of the border to Calgary Dave, k? I should warn you though – I’m a bit of a one-drink wonder *grin. Back-to-back pregnancies destroyed any tolerance I had and I still haven’t been able to rebuild! I tried one of those Mojito things a few weeks ago and jeesh, I had to stay at the bar for three hours to kill the buzz!

Alas, the advantages to living in an urban area. Sigh. I’ve met only a few of my bloggy friends and one of them had to drive 5 hours to make it happen. I’ve gotten invitations for saketinis but had to turn it down, the commute was just too far.
I’m thinking I need to relocate. All anyone ever drinks around here is warm beer and we’re not talking microbrews either. :(
