All Hail the Money Machine!
All hail the money machine!
You know the one – you push some buttons and it spits out cash whenever you need it.
Perfect for holiday shopping. Or anytime, really!
Just watch out if you’re a parent who uses the money machine in front of your kids.
Take the Wells Fargo stage over to Silicon Valley Moms Blog (it’s free!) and read about:
(If that pre-programmed link doesn’t work, go straight to Dad’s House posts at SV Moms)
Leave a comment, then bring your bling back here and spend it (on a Kindle maybe?) After all, you can always use the money machine to get more cash.

Shopping with your kids is ALWAYS more expensive than without. That can be due to a Sbux bribe to keep them happy and quiet or because they want everything in sight.
I learned long ago to shop sans kids whenever possible. ;)

Yep, my kids *used* to think you just walked up, slid in a plastic card and it spit out money any ole time. They got introduced to reality really quickly when I tried the method with their piggy bank.

I am a sucker when it comes to keeping my daughter quiet for even a minute, so at the grocery store, she knows that she gets a free kids cookie and a penny ride on the horsey. It costs me .01 to keep her happy, so I guess I am lucky.

Reminds me of the old Rug Rats episode where they went to the MNM machine. :)

Yeah, my kids know better than to demand of me. I always tell ‘em, “Sure, if you brought you’re own money, go right ahead!”
Shuts them up every time. :)

Ah yes. I went through this with my kids… After the first couple of times, the get the idea.
I would actually discuss the economics (in terms they understood.) and then we had lessons is allowances, and working for their money.
Ah, yes… good times. good times.

My parents taught me early on that money just doesn’t come out of an ATM machine, and that you actually have to have money in the bank to get it out.
I hope that if I have children that I don’t cave in and give them what they want when they are loud.

I was shopping with my kids once and my daughter asked for a DVD or a book and when I said, “That’s not what we came here for,” she responded, “Well mommy says I can have whatever I want.”
I almost laughed but I didn’t. I said that may be the case when you’re with her but when we go shopping we buy what we came for and that’s it. I also mentioned that I don’t really think their mom would say that.
We’ve had many talks about how people get money, budgeting, financing, etc. I’ve even walked out of Target with a completely full shopping cart and went home without buying anything because they gave me too much grief about buying them something. That was no fun because I ultimately had to go back and do it all over again another day. It did avoid an in-store tantrum and it made my point. I wish I could say I never cave but it’s a rare thing indeed and I always have to find a way to show them it’s my decision and not theirs.

Luckily my kids have never been like that. There was that time when I had to drive the cart directly down the center of the aisle or young Rachel would load it with whatever she could grasp in her tiny little paws. Yeah, so she silently broke the bank…but not tantrums. ;)

I used to do that to my dad. “but, Daaaaad. Just go to the drive through at the bank and get money!” He still pokes fun at me when we get money from the bank. He says “Now, Keith. You know where the money really comes from, right?” With a big smile on his face like the joke is brand new or something :-) I guess I’ll always be that 5 year old kid to him!
