Craigslist Dating and Hot Tattoos
When a single dad is in between relationships and craving intimacy, there’s one quick fix – go on a date, flirt and raise the heat, and maybe you’ll end up in bed. Not the best way to start a long term relationship, but one-night-stands serve their purpose. Spooning skin to skin is a very good thing.
On Friday I turned to Craigslist, looking for a fun date. No, I didn’t write the sort of creepy Craigslist ad that Sandra loves to tear apart (go read one of her Craigslist personals translations. They are funny as heck.)
I simply posted to see if a woman wanted to meet for drinks and see where things led.
In no time, I got a response: I’m down with that. Pretty woman, nice figure. You’re over 40, right? What time do you want to meet?
Now, I’ve been around the Craigslist block enough times to know this person a) might be spam, b) might be a guy collecting photos to create a fake profile on a dating site, c) might be legitimate.
I sent a cagey reply, and she wrote right back, describing herself even more. 5’8, 132, 34c/24/35, dark hair, olive skin.
Huge red flag there – most women won’t give their measurements in email, no matter how good they are. More than that, this woman actually sounded like a friend-with-benefits I’d seen for a few months last fall. I emailed back that she sounded familiar.
Recognize this? she wrote. She sent me a photo of the small of her back where she had a very hot tattoo with a half-naked woman and thunderbolts and swirly patterns. Now, I’ve seen some good small of the back tattoos (like Ginger Magnolia’s), but I’d never seen this particular half-naked woman design before.
We haven’t met, I wrote. At least not naked.
So what time do you want to meet? she wrote.
Okay, at this point, if a woman on Craigslist doesn’t ask for my photo, I sort of figure something is up. Add in those hottie measurements and the hot tattoo, and I sensed there was more to her than she was letting on. But it was Friday, and I was up for anything. I asked for a face pic, and she obliged.
Damn, she was pretty! And young – 22 or so. Why had she asked if I was over 40?
One reason – she wanted a Sugar Daddy.
Blog fodder is blog fodder. I figured I’d ride this one out as long as possible and see where things led. We made plans to meet at a wine bar.
That’s when things got even more interesting.
You know, I really shouldn’t be hanging out on a night I’m not working, she wrote.
What work do you do? I asked.
I’m a dancer.
I’m no dummy. She meant she was an exotic dancer.
To make a long story short, she implied that were I to give her enough money to pay her cell phone bill (which I’m sure was exorbitant), she wouldn’t have to worry about not working, and she could hang out with me. She said she’d be up for whatever sort of partying I wanted to do.
Don’t you just love when the hookers go trolling for dates on Craigslist?
I ended up watching a movie with a platonic girl friend. Someone without any hot tattoos.
At least none that she’s shown me.

And this is why I love Craigslist! If it was all nice and sweet and easy, we’d have NOTHING to write about. And I learn so much from you. Thanks for teaching the new kid a thing or two.

Hm..funny.
You *did* infiltrate my dreams last night. That was a bit surreal…most of my dreams of late have been quite memorable (LOL).
Have a great Monday, Dads. Be well.

What ever shall we do when you stop dating :-p
I am so glad I am out of that world though. While we can giggle about it – there is someting sad and sordid about it!
You need a proper lady DH!!! Someone to spoon with and excercise with your son :-p

My advice would be to use it, but weed out the responses carefully. It can take about 4 months of getting nowhere (the majority of people on CL are there for sex).

Here’s the thing about prostitutes looking for dates on places like Craigslist.
I’m actually not against it.
Now, before anyone jumps on my back, I’m going to come right out and say that I’m not anti-prostitution per se. I meant, I don’t support and it’s not something that I would personally do, but I think that it’s one of those things that is going to exist, particularly in our society, and so we should make it as safe for these women as possible.
Prostitution is a dangerous profession. Women in my city are raped, beated, and murdered, and there is little support from the police to keep them safe.
Why wouldn’t a prostitute go looking for a “date” on Craigslist? It’s a whole lot safer than working the streets.
Just my two cents. ;-)

I despise online dating. The last time I did it I got burnt out from all the time I spent just to end up meeting nothing but “blog fodder” material. Where are all the relationship potential people hiding? Guess I will have to find out cuz this single mom is back on the scene!
*sigh*

Hey! Thanks for the shout-out, even if it was mixed in with a post about a prostitute…wait a minute! :P
For those online daters here, I’ve found OK Cupid to be a good site. For the most part, it seems to have a better class of users (losers? who, me?) than other dating sites, by which I mean that I wasn’t propositioned right off the bat, nor were there attempts at persuading me to let someone be my sugar daddy. It’s also free. I met my current boyfriend there, as well as some guy friends with similar interests.

Sounds to me you were safer- with the platonic friend.
I have had a couple of ‘dinner and a hookup’ episodes on craigslist myself- they were nice- turned out well, until one asshole ruined the site for me.
Also, there was a craigslist killer ( a serial killer stalking victims on craigslist)- and that was a killer for me.
Be very very careful

Mama Llama – did you have a tat in your dream? Or maybe you were the half-naked woman with thunder bolts and swirly patterns… in real (dream) life.
Elizabeth – watch out, I’ll be infiltrating your dreams tonight…
Keith – Craigslist already has a red light district called “adult services”. I guess in tough economic times, the hookers have to look elsewhere. Who knows?!

Men have it rough when sniffing around for female company, especially on Craigslist.
I would give you a hug, but that would require some ca$h for me to drive to you, and pick out something nice to wear for you.

Awesome, great CL story. Those are the best. The last time I posted a dating ad on CL, I got a half dozen emails from dudes asking if I would be up for a gay experience, or at least a handjob, which INCLUDED pictures of their equipment.

That’s a minefield. Somehow it doesn’t seem fair having to be suspicious, go trawling for the truth etc. That’s too hard – life should be real life photo, genuine people wanting to meet genuine people. I remember going on a Netdate meet and the guy being blown away because I was the size I said I was – he said they usually are one size larger etc etc – if you want a relationship why lie and if you want to tout as a prostitute why pretend – there’s a market for both.

As the saying goes — if it’s too good to be true …
I don’t think Dads “dodged a bullet”; I think he pretty much knew something was up, but he was willing to go along for the ride (even if it didn’t lead to the ride he wanted …)
I know some people who have successfully hooked-up — even had relationships — from CL. But, I’ve had much better success finding NSA sex from online dating sites. I’d look for someone attractive whose profile didn’t scream “relationship” and send some flirty e-mails. Sure, you have to pay but you’ll at least eliminate the hookers.

Kat – I’ve heard women say the pay-for dating sites suck because so many men there are just looking for casual hookups. Sounds like you are playing those odds in your favor. Good for you. But maybe not so good for the folks who’d like to keep those sites focused on dating relationships. Such is life, I suppose.

Also, to tag off what Ginger Magnolia said, okcupid.com is actually a pretty decent cite. It boasts being the fastest growing free internet dating site. It is one of the ones I just took my profile off of after being on there for two weeks. I had a guy contact me and then added me to Messenger. During our very first conversation when I mentioned I had to go fix dinner, he got all insecure about why I was cutting the conversation off after 30 minutes and he literally would not let me get off the computer. I had to be rude and just go offline. The next day, he emailed me and said these words, “You can’t seriously have made a decision against me based on a few words said in a chat room. I thought you weren’t the shallow type.” Yeah, the strange ones are out there everywhere. Okcupid.com is alright as far as internet dating sites go and I’d recommend it, but I’m just tired of dealing with that kind of bizarre stuff. It has some really fun features none of the other sites do.
