Once upon a time, I was a successful Silicon Valley engineer who spent way too much time thinking about data structures and algorithms and shiny brass patent plaques.

I quit my job and became a novelist. (At 25 cents a glass you have to sell a lot of fresh squeezed orange juice to live in the Bay Area. Either that, or consult.)

I was already a runner and marathoner.

With a big fan club!

When running took its toll on my knees, I took up cycling.

Friends got me into sailing, where my primary crew duties include fetching beers and choosing music. (Trust me, I’m good.)

We’re often out on the San Francisco Bay.

And we’ve sailed the British Virgin Islands (and drank way too many Bushwackers.)

My kids and I like to go car camping.

I’m a big fan of Italian Serie A soccer, especially AS Roma, Juventus, and AC Milan. (The team in the light blue kit is clearly Napoli.)
