The Author
David Mott is a Bay Area single dad with half-time custody of his two children. When he’s not writing, parenting, dating, and blogging, what does he do? Here’s his story…

Once upon a time, I was a successful Silicon Valley engineer who spent way too much time thinking about data structures and algorithms and shiny brass patent plaques.

I quit my job and became a novelist. (At 25 cents a glass you have to sell a lot of fresh squeezed orange juice to live in the Bay Area. Either that, or consult.)

I was already a runner and marathoner.

With a big fan club!

When running took its toll on my knees, I took up cycling.

Friends got me into sailing, where my primary crew duties include fetching beers and choosing music. (Trust me, I’m good.)

We’re often out on the San Francisco Bay.

And we’ve sailed the British Virgin Islands (and drank way too many Bushwackers.)

My kids and I like to go car camping.

I like alternative rock, stuff like:
And I love to read! Checkout my reading list at GoodReads. And add me as a friend.

I’m a big fan of Italian Serie A soccer, especially AS Roma, Juventus, and AC Milan. (The team in the light blue kit is clearly Napoli.)
Can’t forget my roots (or those of my kids - they’re half Italian. Io parlo un po.):

I’ve written two novels, one of which is about a single parent navigating the modern dating scene, and am seeking agent representation and publication. Hopefully you’ll see my books in a bookstore soon.
Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy my blog.

Ahhh…now that’s what I’m talking about!
Love your blog, so nice to hear a single dad’s perspective. Can’t wait to read those books…

Love all the new pictures!!
I love the shot of you with your head shaved and the microphone- do you do that in your spare time?

David;
I learned about your blog from Rachel Sarah’s site, and wanted to reach out to see if we could exchange links. I’m part of a parenting blog at my newspaper, and, as a divorced dad, try to hit on nuts&bolts stuff of single parenting and, of late, building a blended family.
Part of what I’m also trying to do is build a blogroll of other single parenting sites. That’s how I came upon Rachel and Trey Ellis. I’m hoping to grow my site a bit more.
Anyway, I’ll add you to my blogroll and hope to land on yours. I’ve been lax lately, but my posts are at: http://parentsplace.lohudblogs.com/author/jfitzgibbon
Thanks
Casachaos - I’ve always wanted to be a rockstar. Not sure who I’d rather be - Tool’s Maynard or U2’s Bono. They both look like they’re having fun!
Jorge - thanks for finding me. Rachel Sarah is great. I’m happy to add you to my blogroll.
Go for Bono!
Yeah to Ms. Single Mama for convincing you to post more picks!…she is right: you ARE adorable! Now all you have to do is post them on http://www.iheartsingleparents.com so our community can see too!
iheart is great, I’ll get back over. It’s been crazy this week with spring break and my kids off from school!
Alternative music, beer and the great outdoors? I’m sooo blogrolling you. Hope I’m gentle.
What if I like it rough?
That too can be arranged.

Hi David: It is so refreshing to know single dads are out there who like to hike, camp and do a lot of outdoors stuff. I love the outdoors, i live in Fla. so there is not much hiking, but a dream of mine is to go by RV to Yosemite and Yellowstone, how about you?, Chao, Patricia
Hi there! I’ve mentioned you on my blog, again, today since you continue to provide thought-provoking articles that generate a *strong emotional reaction* from me…Keep up the amazing writing and let me know if you can share your book with me (I’m a Marketing Professional in the Publishing industry during the day) for editing or otherwise.
Thanks David, for the positive feedback on my daycare guilt and for noticing my danish comment on Ms.SingleMama’s…
Have I earned a spot on your Blog Roll yet? =)
I’m honored you are reading my stuff!
Fun read!
